What a Chinese university dormitory look like

Zhejiang Gongshang University 8
I don't know if this applies to all universities in China, but the university dormitory I've experienced living in for about a week in Hangzhou deviates from what I have in mind for an ordinary dormitory. Thanks to China's economic miracle - their university dormitories look like 3- or 4-star hotels. My room at Zhejiang Gongshang University Guesthouse was a twin-bed medium-sized room complete with a flat-screen TV, a balcony, a toilet, towels and other basic hygiene effects.

The view from my room. There are many dormitory buildings in this university.

This is one of the university restaurants near the dormitories.

My 5-yuan (77 cents in US$) breakfast meal - stir-fried noodles, a sausage, and a yogurt. I'd prefer coffee though.

One important note is that the western toilet is not common in China. In this dormitory, the toilets are mostly Japanese type, but with holes in them.

  1. Did you stay on Xiasha campus? And was this the dormitory for the international students?

I'll be going there next year and I hope it will be something like that.

    Thanks!

  2. Oh hi Tim! I don't know, coz I'm not familiar with the campuses. I stayed there only for a few days, for a conference. Hmmm, if that is the one with the economics department, then I guess it probably was. Enjoy your stay there!
